Default Wildfires, about time!

It has been a rather tame wildfire season in southern california this year despite all the enhanced brush growth from the heavy winter rains. However, 100 degrees + dry hot winds = fire! Some fires relatively close by finally broke out and I was able to put my camera to use. I wasn't close enough to see any flames but it gave me something to do anyways.

I arrive at my college in the early afternoon. Even though there was a fire right next to the college no classes were cancelled. Darn! By the time I got there the fires were pretty much out. Just some blackened hills and smoldering spots. I did see a helicopter drop water though.

Quite a different story when I left class an hour later.

As if excessive heat, excessive dry air, and strong winds were not enough, the air needed an unpleasant smokey smell added to it.

On my way home the freeway was rather slow. But it gave me time to improve my leet "Take pictures while driving and not paying attention to the road" skills!

That's the best my pictures got. I had a potentially better look at the fire but some car drove right in front of my shot at the last second.

Would you care to list all of the problems with Mother Nature that California has, other than wildfires, which can affect any state with shrubs, forests or other vegetation and earthquakes. California is no worse or better off than any other state as far as Mother Nature goes.

Read my post again, I mention the earthquakes. and those are relatively localized, not mass destruction over a wide area like a hurricane, tornado or wildfire.

Yeah earthquakes are nothing. Wildfires are just fun to watch. Can sit in my pool and watch the hill behind my house burn while fire fighting planes make dives at it. So much fun. Not like the hurricanes and tornadoes elsewhere.

i survived both the sylmar and northridge quakes with nothing worse than cracked walls celing etc

and the worst crack in the driveway/walks were less than 2 inches across/down as well.

on the other hand i have gone to the beach with 78 degrees and nude beach volleyball (co ed) at christmas so it isnt too bad

Wildfires aren't fun to watch when they are half a mile away from your house because some stupid kid set a field on fire with a smoke bomb and fireworks are now illegal

yes, i live smack in the middle of tornado alley, and here we dont go inside when the tornado sirens go off. we go outside and look for it. Tornadic thunderstorms are so cool. except if they're coming at YOU..then its no good. and those things change direction so fast its scary. but still, i'd take tornadoes any day over earthquakes or hurricanes or wildfires.
